Dowel bar Caps are made of high-quality, flexible virgin LDPE. They are used as a cover for dowel bars used in concrete structures to allow horizontal joint movements, which effectively maintains the purpose of the dowel bars in the concrete structure by preventing cracking. Sleeves are used to debond dowel bars from concrete, allowing the bars to slide within the sleeves when the panels expand and compress. Sleeves must be strong enough to withstand mild impacts induced by inserting dowel bar-filled sleeves into cradles or paver trolleys. They must be smooth enough to pass the slip test described below in order to comply with the MORTH code. Most notably, they should have thin wall thickness to reduce concrete cracks generated by compression sleeves under load. Plastic sleeves are utilized with predrilled expansion boards, such as cedar or polypropylene, to precisely position and align smooth steel dowels in the neighboring concrete section. The Dowel Sleeve allows for easy positioning of smooth dowels with leave-in-place expansion boards, such as cedar or polypropylene. Expansion boards are predrilled with appropriate hole sizes and spacing to fulfill standards. After positioning the predrilled boards, immediately snap the sleeves into place. Collar tabs align each sleeve perpendicular to the board face. The plastic casing maintains each smooth steel dowel in the optimal horizontal position to ensure the most effective load distribution between concrete pavement sections. The typical expansion and contraction of concrete occurs when the smooth steel dowel bar moves within the sleeve. A more effective alternative to using epoxy coating on dowel rods, dowel rod sleeves allow concrete to expand and contract with ambient temperature. This reduces the transfer of stress on parts of the concrete and therefore helps to minimise the chances of cracking occurring due to temperature fluctuations.
