"Altar cloth is a fabric covering placed on an Altar/Chowki while doing spiritual activity in any religion. It is commonly known as Deity Puja Asan (also spelled Pooja Aasan or Asana) and is believed to be a sacred cloth or mat used during worship (puja). It serves both ritual and symbolic purposes. It is often a Richly Decorated cloth placed beneath the murti (idol) or framed image of God/Goddess. It represents respect, hospitality, and honor offered to the deity—just as a revered guest is given a seat. It symbolizes inviting the deity to reside during puja while maintaining ritual purity. It also enhances the sanctity and beauty of the altar. It is spread flat on the altar and we place Murti or frame in center on the asan. The asan or cloth should not touch the floor directly.
