The Tempest is the finest of Shakespeare's great romances. The play is set on a remote island, inhabited by Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan and his daughter Miranda since past 12 years. Prospero was deceived by his villainous brother Antonio who usurped his throne. In order to restore his daughter to her rightful position, he uses his magical powers to conjure a storm and shipwrecks the ship in which his brother was travelling along with his friend, King Alonso of Naples and his son, Ferdinand. With the help of his devoted attendant Ariel, Prospero brings them to the island and then begins a series of actions that ultimately lead to the final face-off. Exploring the themes of love, magic, forgiveness and colonization, *The Tempest* claims to be a romantic comedy with a mild element of tragedy in its plot.
